India’s most populous state is all set for its political battle. At a first glance, it may seem that the only two “serious” contenders are Yogi Adityanath’s Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP). On another note, both the party heavyweights are going to polls in Gorakhpur (urban) and Karhal, respectively. However, the 403 Vidhan Sabha seats couldn’t be more disputed.
With volatile coalitions in the opposition and an unclear chain of command in the BJP, no one knows who the next Chief Minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh (UP) will be. According to expert political commentators, the results will boil down to who controls the Other Backward Caste (OBC) vote bank’s division and the Western UP region. This, along with the Yadav and Jat vote bank will act as a deciding factor. Thus, as always caste and religion both are going to play a mammoth card in this year's assembly polls.
The Uncut Team will be coming up with regular updates on this year's political fiasco in the state of UP, which will be available on our blog. Tune in for verified, accurate and crisp details which will be revised on an hourly basis!
